An exploration of abandoned alleys in Shanghai

The Street began with a disappearing alley. In Shanghai's Hongkou District — the area with the city's largest concentration of old lanes — a 6,000㎡ block near the artist's first home was slated for demolition, its residents moving out one by one.

After meeting an elderly neighbor cooking what would be her last supper there, the project set out to ask how this part of the city's memory might be carried forward. It translates the alley's sounds, textures, and atmosphere into live performance and documentary — an attempt to honor a place that history was about to erase.
